General Assembly Meeting 2024 in Amsterdam, Netherlands
The European-Arab Judicial Training Network convened its 2024 General Assembly meeting in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on December 2, 2024. Official representatives from the member states, totaling 14 countries, including Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraq, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, and Belgium, participated in the meeting.
Judge Dr. Nashat Al-Akhras, Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat, opened the meeting. He welcomed directors and representatives of judicial training institutes from the member states. He thanked the National Judicial Training Institute of the Netherlands for hosting the event. He also welcomed the Saudi and Omani delegations, who were invited as observers. The Secretary-General stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation to support the Network’s work. He then gave the floor to Judge Professor Raf Van Ransbeek, Director of the Judicial Training Institute in Belgium and Chairman of the Board. Judge Van Ransbeek also welcomed the attendees.
Elections for a new Board of Directors were held during the meeting. Representatives from judicial institutes in the UAE, Morocco, Kuwait, France, Spain, and Italy were elected. A new President and Vice President were also chosen. The presidency was transferred to the Abu Dhabi Judicial Institute in the UAE, represented by Counselor Mohamed Al-Kamali. The French National School for the Judiciary, represented by Mr. Hafidi Boulkaries, was selected as Vice President.
The meeting reviewed the agenda items and discussed the 2024 training programs. It evaluated the achievements of these programs and approved the planned programs for 2025. These programs aim to develop joint training initiatives and promote the exchange of experiences among judges, prosecutors, and justice sector professionals.
